Price and Woodford bring the wins home to Luton

Updated: May 18, 2021

Luton Town boxing club gets off to a flying start with impressive victories from both promising young fighters on a night to remember for all involved.

Joe Price and Matt Woodford both won their bouts at the High Wycombe Show on Saturday the 16th of November, with the hard work in the gym being reflected in two strong performances in the ring.

First up was a tightly-contested three-round bout for LTBC's Joe Price. An imposing first round and a challenging second resulted in an explosive third and final round, when a quick jab followed by a powerful right led to an impressive knockdown by Price, earning him the victory on a split decision.

Later on, it was Woodford's turn to test the ropes and deliver two wins from two for Luton Town boxing Club. He did so with a punch-perfect performance and a first-round TKO. Woodford showed his dominance from the off by defending, countering and landing his jab to devastating effect. After two interventions from the umpire, the third stoppage signalled the end of the fight and confirmed an emphatic victory for Woodford.

Luton's travelling support was excellent, with parents, junior and carded boxers, trainers as well as other members of the club making their way down to High Wycombe in a minibus to cheer the boys on during their debut bouts. Price and Woodford's performances alone were enough to make the audience sit up and take note, but the fans made sure Luton Town Boxing club was heard as well!

Next up for the club is our first event of the season next Saturday, the 23rd of November, at the Stopsley Workers club, on a night promising a live atmosphere and some great boxing. We hope to see you there! For details of the event, please feel free to get in touch!
